Rev. Dr. Doug Showalter -- dougshow@meganet.net

I am looking for information on the ancestors of JANE HOOPER who married WILLIAM DAVIS in Blount Co., TN on 25 October 1832, at the Eusebia Presbyterian Church. Jane was born abt 1800--[possibly] in Iredell Co., NC, and possibly was the daughter of JAMES HOOPER and [Elvira/Caroline/Martha??]. Jane died 14 Aug 1875 in Knox Co., TN.

Generation 5
William and Jane had the following children:
--JOHN HARVEY DAVIS [b: 31 July 1831, Blount Co., TN]
--WILSON N. DAVIS [b: 27 Jun 1833, Blount Co., TN]
--CAROLINE DAVIS [b: abt 1838, Blount Co., TN]
--MARTHA A. DAVIS [b: 18 Nov 1839, Blount Co., TN]
--WILLIAM FRANKLIN DAVIS [b: abt 1842, Blount Co., TN]
--HIRAM DAVIS [b: abt 1845 in Blount Co., TN].
--ISABELLA ELMIRA DAVIS [b: 26 Sep 1847, Blount Co., TN]
--GLASCO C. DAVIS [b: 1850, Blount Co., TN]
--DANIEL T. DAVIS [b: 29 May 1853, Blount Co., TN]
[SEE THIS SITE'S DAVIS PAGE FOR MORE DETAILS ON THIS FAMILY]

The 1830 Blount Co., TN census shows:
JAMES HOOPER SR. [b: 1770-1780]
JAMES HOOPER JR. [b: 1800-1810]
MOSES HOOPER [b: 1790-1800]

There are no Hoopers in the 1810 and 1840 censuses of Blount Co. [The 1820 census may be lost?]

Other researchers believe it is possible that Jane Hooper who married William Davis was a child of JAMES HOOPER [b: 1770-74].
--In 1794 he appears in Wilkes 'Rede fork Hunting Crk where Patty Hooper now lives.'
--In 1798 in Iredell Co., NC there is a deed for James Hooper & John Hooper, with Elijah Hooper as witness
--He appears in 1810-1820 Iredell Co., NC census.
--He appears in 1830 Blount Co., TN census.
Possible children were:
--Martha Hooper [b: Jan 1801]--m: Stephen Spence [b: Oct 1800] on 1818 in Wilkes Co./Iredell Co., NC. Moved to TN about 1820/21. Were in Blount Co., TN from 1830-35. Were in Rhea Co., TN from 1835-67.
--Moses Hooper [b: 1790-1800] went to Rhea Co., TN.
--Jane Hooper --m: William Davis in 1832 Blount Co., TN.
--a sister --m: --?--- Knight, went to Rhea Co., TN.
--James Hooper, Jr. [b: abt 1804]--m: Louisa --?--, were in Rhea Co., TN from 1840-50. James Jr. was a J.P. in Dayton about 1845-6. Later he moved to Saline Co., Arkansas.
