Children of BARBARA HENDRICKS[ON] and PHILIP FIREBAUGH:

BARBARA HENDRICKS[ON] [b: 1776/1780, PA; d: 1843, Coshocton Co., OH] married Philip [b: abt 1744/1752, near Chambersburg, PA; d: abt 1808/1809, Sandy Creek, Allegany Co., MD; bur: Harrison Co., OH] in 1795 in Somerset Co., PA. She was his second wife. [Barbara is a possible sibling, but that has not been proven. Instead, Barbara may have been a child of John Hendricks (b. 1750 Chester, PA - d. 1818 Harrison, OH) and Margaret Markly/Merkle (b. 1753, Elk Lick, Somerset, PA - d. 1813 Harrison, OH).]

Philip Firebaugh is said to have been the eighth child of Heinrich and Catharina Marie Feuerbach of Lehigh Co., PA. Heinrich came from Germany on the ship "Friendship" at Philadelphia on 2 Nov 1744. Philip served in the Revolutionary War.

Philip married his first wife Magdalena Keiffer [b: Lancaster Co., PA; d: {likely by 1790} Elk Lick Twp, Bedford Co., PA] on 14 Mar 1780, possibly near Middleton, Dauphin Co., PA. In 1785 Philip and family settled in Elk Lick Twp, Bedford Co., in a place called the "Glades."

On 17 Apr 1795, Elk Lick Twp became part of Somerset Co. Philip paid taxes on Somerset Co. land from 1796 to 1808. In the 1800 census, Philip is shown in Sandy Creek, Allegany Co., MD. In 1808, Philip and sons went to Harrison Co, OH where he secured a farm in North Twp. In 1809 Philip died of fever in Allegany Co., MD. After Philip's death, Barbara moved to Harrison Co., OH. She received a patent for their Harrison Co. land in 1812. Sometime between 1820 to 1840, Barbara moved to Crawford Twp, Coshocton Co., OH.

Barbara died about 1843. Her will is dated 26 Nov 1842, and admitted to probate on 24 Mar 1843. She mentions all her known children, but also states:
"Sixth, for sufficient reasons it is my will that Solomon Hendricks shall have but one dollar." The final accounting of the will was on 17 Oct 1844. That shows two receipts, apparently signed by Solomon Hendrickson. He received one dollar "in full of the legacy bequeathed to me", also ten dollars "against the estate."

COMMENT: It seems very possible that Hendricks was Barbara's married name when she married Philip, and that the above Solomon Hendricks[on] was a son from that first marriage. In other words, she was born a Hendricks and then married a Hendricks in her first marriage.

Magdalena and Philip are said to have had the following children:

Magdalena is said to have been a daughter of Mennonite minister, Rev. Joseph Von Gundy and his wife, Fanny Coffman.

The Gin Ridge Clans by Arthur Kent Hall, 1998, published by Anundsen Publishing Co. in Decorah, IA is a helpful compilation of information on this Hendrickson family. This book gathers up and presents basic information on this family which is available from a variety of sources [including some of my own research done years ago] and also adds much new information, particularly regarding descendants and some of the McDonough County families they married into.
