Further, as I review your post and reflect on my own mental processes, I wonder if one might make a case for universal forgiveness of sin (by God) for mankind in a reverse logic sort of way?
That is to say:
God in Jesus has commanded us to forgive unconditionally regardless of the
repentance of the guilty party *SO* one might assume this is God's policy too
in regards to our sin. (despite the evidence) Then as with many passages there is the question of whether forgivenss is due the non-believer as in many cases it refers to forgiving our"brothers" and in others it doesn't differenciate.
